ON TO BERLIN...

The final of the first World Series event in Jersey proved to be the best match of the tournament.

From 3-3, John Higgins turned it on as breaks of 72, 104 and 69 saw him over the line 6-3 against Mark Selby.

The match was played in a good spirit and the crowd - the biggest of the weekend - seemed to enjoy every minute.

The mood backstage was that this first event went well, even though there will inevitably be issues to address before moving on to Berlin in July.

There is great enthusiasm for this project among those involved in it and also from the players.

Pat Mooney, the chief executive of FSTC Scotland, the promoters, has 14 cities interested in hosting events next year, so it looks like the World Series is only going to get bigger and better.

I think the world series is alongside the championship league snooker a great thing and a huge boost for professional snooker. world series being televised on eurosport is fantastic, it was a pleasure to watch the final last night while the season usually hasn't started before early fall. let's hope that our national association here in finland would be one of those who have shown their interst in organising an event next year.

For now it's just a bit of fun, giving some competitions to new audiences and perhaps suggesting new venues for official ranking events. If they really can hold 10+ tournaments next year, and have more than four professionals at each one - maybe things will go the same way as darts and we'll have two World Championships of sorts. Higgins believes that the game hasn't been marketed as well as it could've been, and big attendances in these events would suggest that he's right.
